In the final of the World Cup in Ravenna, Italy, Russian beach soccer team defeated Brazil champion team 12-8.
Many experts say it was, probably, the best match of the Russian players. They gained a 3-0 lead from the very start and didn't let the thirteen-time Brazil champions come back into the game. The fate of the final was decided in the second 12 minutes, in which Russia scored six times. So the third period was no more than a formality, and the Russian team, trained by Mikhail Likhachev ended the game with an impressive 12-8 result.
Russian Dmitry Shishin was named the Best Player of the Russian Team, as he scored a hat-trick for winners that night. In his turn, the South Americans’ top player Andre was named the Best goal-scorer of the game and the whole Championship, as he netted six goals past Russia’s in-form keeper Andrey Bukhlitsky. But the efforts of one sports star weren't enough to stop the magnificently trained Russians.
Russia, the only squad to win all of their games in Ravenna, lifted the Beach Soccer World Cup for the first time in their history. It’s their second huge success in just two months as Likhachev’s charges also claimed the Euroleague back in August.
Portugal has taken the third place, defending Salvador 3-2
