The fourth stage production in the repertoire of the new Moscow Musical Theatre (former Gorbunov’s Entertainment Centre) will be dedicated to the rock star Viktor Tsoi.
“Next year marks the musician’s 50th anniversary, and it seems proper to tell about this powerful figure in the musical language” –the theater’s general director Alexander Popov explains.
He explained that it would not be a biographical story of Viktor Tsoi, but a play about how people remember him today. Negotiation with young playwrights and stage directors are underway.
The first production in the repertoire of the new Musical Theatre will be the play Times are not Chosen expected to premiere on December, 21st, and then the theatre’s art director Mikhail Shvydkoy plans to stage the Broadway rock musical Rent, which will be staged in spring of 2012, as well as The Embezzlers after Valentin Kataev’s play.
