An international competition for singers specializing in Italian opera, the Competizione dell'Opera took place in the Russian capital for the first time in its history. Earlier, the competition has been traditionally held in Dresden, Germany, but this year it was moved to Moscow within the Italian Year of Culture across Russia. The competition's program always consists of the great repertoire of Italian opera from old music of such giants as Mozart, Verdi and Puccini to the stylistic diversity of the 20th century.

All the contest's participants were performing at one of the most beautiful opera stages - the historic Bolshoi Theatre, where the singers were judged by famous opera and festival directors and singers. Over the last 14 years, the Competizione dell´Opera has been recognized as one of the largest singing competitions worldwide.
