Russian opera singers has won all the awards, including the coveted first prize of 10,000 euros, at one the most prominent opera contests - the Competizione dell’Opera.
First prize went to baritone Roman Burdenko with fellow baritone Igor Golovatenko and bass Mikhail Korobejnikov picking up the other two top awards. They ousted finalists flying the flag for South Korea, Mongolia, South Africa and Lithuania.
The winner, 27-year-old baritone Roman Burdenko, worked at such stages, as Mikhailovsky Theatre (St. Petersburg) and Metropolitan Opera (New York).
An international competition for singers specializing in Italian opera, the Competizione dell'Opera took place in the Russian capital for the first time in its history. Earlier, the competition has been traditionally held in Dresden, Germany, but this year it was moved to Moscow within the Italian Year of Culture across Russia. The competition's program always consists of the great repertoire of Italian opera from old music of such giants as Mozart, Verdi and Puccini to the stylistic diversity of the 20th century.
All the contest's participants were performing at one of the most beautiful opera stages - the historic Bolshoi Theatre, where the singers were judged by famous opera and festival directors and singers. Over the last 14 years, the Competizione dell´Opera has been recognized as one of the largest singing competitions worldwide.
