Moscow may have its own domain name .Moscow and . Ìîñêâà. Moscow will apply for it in January 2012, says the Head of Moscow Information Technology Department Artyem Ermolayev.
Moscow is a leader in the Internet space in Russia. About 64% of all active population of the capital use the Internet. 59% of households are connected to the high-speed Internet.
At that, the Internet cost in Moscow is one of the lowest in the country. The minimum price for connection a month is 70 Rubles (about $2,3).
About one third of all domain names in the zone .ru are registered in Moscow, what makes up about 1.13 mln domains.
The Moscow authorities hope that their application in 2012 will be supported, what would let the Muscovites to have their own “registration” in the web.
