Pskov, Smolensk and Novgorod regions will open a combined travel route, which is named "Back to Roots of Russia". The three regions will think over its components and jointly promote the new excursion. The respective agreement was signed by representatives of the regional administrations on the 17th of September 2011.
Pskov, Smolensk and Veliky Novgorod are the oldest Russian cities, which are inseparably linked with the country's ancient history. Pskov region received more than 350 thousand guests in 2010, about 130 thousand tourists visited Novgorod region in the first half of 2011. There is no recent data about Smolensk, but the region received more than 230 thousand tourists in 2007.
The new combined travel route will start from St. Petersburg and Moscow. In both variants the tourists will be able to see the main places of interest in all three regions. They will see not only ancient monuments, but several modern objects, in particular, the museum-house of Yuri Nikulin, who was born in Demidov, the estate of Mikhail Glinka in the Novospasskaya village, Smolensk region, and many other interesting places.
