On Tuesday Russian national football team defeated Andorra 6-0 and so secured passage to the finals of Euro 2012 as Group B winners.
A draw would have sufficed after last Friday's crucial 1-0 win in Slovakia, but Russia didn't relax and steamrolled a weak Andorra's team of part-timers, who managed just one shot all night.
Alan Dzagoev opened the scoring in the 5th minute, then Sergei Ignashevich made a goal in the 25th minute and Roman Pavluchenko in the 29th minute, and just before the rest time Dzagoev doubled his result. In the second half Andorra conceded the fifth goal from Denis Glushakov and the sixth from Everton winger Diniyar Bilyaletdinov.
Ather that game Russia scored 23 points in Group B, which allowed the team to pass to the finals of the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship from the first place. The second place was occupied by Ireland, which defeated Armenia 2:1, gained 21 points, and now is to play play-offs for the passage to the finals.
«I think we played a very strong competition in the 10 games, and really deserved to have the first place,» Russia coach Dick Advocaat said.
The draw for the final tournament will take place on 2 December 2011 at the Ukraine Palace of Arts in Kiev, Ukraine. The final tournament will be hosted by Poland and Ukraine between 8 June and 1 July 2012.
