In many megalopolises' underground networks a so-called "circle line" plays a pivotal role in providing quick connections between all other lines. Moscow underground is no exception, so imagine what it was like to be left without one of the most important stops on the Circle line. Park Kultury Circle Line station has been closed on February 5, 2011 for major escalator repairs. The works were expected to last until December 29 - so that by New Year people could use this station to commute.
Alas, the Moscow Underground authorities have warned the public that the station's opening is likely to be postponed until after the New Year. The delays in supplies is cited as the reason.
The Moscow Underground has seen many short-term repairs in 2011 that resulted in human "traffic jams", especially during the rush hours. The Park Kultury works, however, have been the longest and have seriously affected people's moves. The station was opened in 1950 and is named after the Gorky Park of Culture and Leisure, located nearby.
