The Disney Channel will air on broadcast stations in 54 cities, including Moscow and Saint Petersburg. That will provide the channel with some 40 million households audience at launch and more than 75 percent of the measured audience in Russia.
The Walt Disney Company is acquiring a 49 percent stake in the Seven TV network from media company UTH Russia. Today the companies have signed an agreement on creating a channel under the brand Disney. The deal size and sum of investments of the American company will make up $ 300 million.
The channel will feature Disney programming and original Russian content, the companies said in a statement. It will be free-to-air and supported by advertising.
