Russians keep on investing into English football. Maxim Demin, the co-owner of the bank Zenit has acquired 50 % of shares of Bournemouth football club from the club management: long-time directors Steve Sly and ex-chairman Jeff Mostyn, reports BBC referring to the local Bournemouth newspaper.
According to Lee Bradbury, the club manager, he welcomes any investments as the club has recently lost some players. He has expressed his desire to start working with the new investor as soon as possible.
Bournemouth FC was founded in 1899 and has never risen above League One. It had to sell players after reaching the play-off semi-final last season.
In July 2011 Vladimir Antonov acquired Portsmouth FC, playing in the Premier league. Russian oligarch Roman Abramovish has owned the Premier league Chelsea since 2003. Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov owns 27 % of shares in Arsenal FC.
