On Wednesday, November 2, Moscow will choose the most stylish, businesslike and cheerful grandmothers at the first "Moscow Super-Babushka 2011" contest, according to the City Government Social Welfare Department.
The contest will be held within the framework of the First International Forum and Exhibition "50+ All pluses of a mature age".
A total of 105 ladies aged over 50 pretend to take part in the contest and to compete for the titles of Moscow’s most stylish, modern, elegant, business-minded, creative, artistic, and cheerful granny.
“They are the core of any family, they support children and grandchildren, they create coziness and harmony,” the department said in a statement. “They are not only guardians of family traditions; they are the link between generations. There are also will be special nominations "Dear Great Grandmother" and "The Nation's Pride and Love". The last one will be given to the women who survived hard years of World War II and was able to live a worthy life and to become a real pride for their country.
"All the contest's participants will be given souvenirs and letters of greetings.", it is said in the official statement.
Grandmothers always played a very important role in Russian society. They are often rulers of the houses, good advisers in different questions and tutors for the grandchildren. Many of modern grandmothers have an active mode of life and take part in many social, political and cultural events.
