“They are the core of any family, they support children and grandchildren, they create coziness and harmony,” the department said in a statement. “They are not only guardians of family traditions; they are the link between generations. Their energy, wisdom and lust for life are worthy of admiration.” (the quotation from RIA Novosti)

There are also will be special nominations "Dear Great Grandmother" and "The Nation's Pride and Love". The last one will be given to the women who survived hard years of World War II and was able to live a worthy life and to become a real pride for their country.

"All the contest's participants will be given souvenirs and letters of greetings.", it is said in the official statement.

Grandmothers always played a very important role in Russian society. They are often rulers of the houses, good advisers in different questions and tutors for the grandchildren. Many of modern grandmothers have an active mode of life and take part in many social, political and cultural events.
