VKontakte Plans to Compete with LiveJournal

VKontakte plans to become the top blogging platform and will compete with LiveJournal for Russian Internet users. The social network wants to attract the most popular bloggers of the Russian Internet on its pages.

“We are turning into the model of blog-platform to afford our users the whole functional for creating large texts,” said Vlad Tsypluhin, VKontakte press secretary. Earlier it was inconvenient to write big notes on the social network, as the service was adapted for the microblogs, he added. “We are negotiating with the famous blogger.”

The cooperation with bloggers will be on a grant basis. VKontakte plans to recommend its users to subscribe to famous bloggers’ pages through the block “People you may know”.
