The 20th summit of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation will be held in Vladivostok in 2012.
Vladivostok has been chosen for a reason: it is Russia's farthest eastern point, "a window to Asia" that opens onto China and Japan. Russia plans to offer the global leaders the following for discussion: intellectual property rights, infrastructure projects, energy consumption, and goods safety.
The United States have played the host to the current summit in Honolulu, Hawaii, where the leaders have agreed to foster "green economy" measures, to strengthen economic integration and expand trade, to advance regulatory convergence and cooperation, and to fight against protectionism. President Barack Obama has signed a bill on the APEC Business Travel Card, a crucial tool for business travel. The global crisis and unemployment have also been addressed. Additionally, the global leaders discussed how a Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement would help bring different APEC economies under a single free trade agreement.
