Today the famous ballet “Sleeping Beauty” will be performed on the newly renovated stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. The first premiere since its reopening was the opera "Ruslan and Lyudmila" - the scandalous production made by a director Dmitry Chernyakov.

According to RIA Novosti, the new ballet «combines the choreography of Marius Petipa, the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky and of course the story by Charles Perrault. The ballet will be suitable for both children and adults».

Svetlana Zakharova will play the lead role of Princess Aurora and her partner, American dancer David Hallberg will transform to Prince Desire.

The first production of the famous ballet dates back to 1890, when it was presented in the Mariinsky Theatre of St. Petersburg. The current 7th version of “Sleeping Beauty” is created by choreographer Yury Grigorovich, the director of two previous editions in 1963 and 1973.

Th dancers will wear magnificent costumes designed by Franca Squarciapino, jewelry and wigs accroding to the tradition of XVI century.

The main conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre Vasily Sinaisky will direct the orchestra.
