Russian winter is really cold, so if you decide to travel to this country, make sure you are ready for special weather conditions. Pay attention to the clothes you wear and to the food you eat. Here are several tips on how to survive freezing temperatures.
Food
Have a substantial meal. Food should be rich in calories. The best dish to eat before going out is something meaty like hot steak or goulash. There are several products you should eat every day and not less than 3 times a week.
Daily:
vegetables and fruit (freshed and cooked)
meat, poultry, fish (boiled, fried, stewed)
hot soups (cooked in a meat brith) and hot
drinks (kompot, tea)
butter
dairy products (cheese, tvorog, sour cream, yoghurts)
Not less than 3 times a week:
crops (buckwheat, beans, peas, lentil)
starchy foods (potatoes, rice, macaroni)
Clothes
It's better to wear several layers of warm clothes, but do it wisely - sweating in cold weather is unacceptable. Do not wear tight clothes, air between your body and garments helps to conserve heat and imporves blood circulation. Your outerwear should be minimum of mid-thigh length. Choose natural fabrics instead of synthetics.
Suitable protective winter clothes:
long padded jacket, fur coat, sheepskin coat
woolen or fur hat
warm high collar and woolen scarf (they will protect upper respiratory tract)
comfortable shoes (too tight shoes will cause frostbite of feet)
