On Monday, a magnificent gala-concert with the participation of the best dancers from Russia's top theatres was given in Madrid, crowning the Russia-Spain cross-cultural year.
The gala-concert was held in the Teatro Real, Madrid, and was opened by the King Juan Carlos I of Spain, his spouse, Queen consort Sofia, and the wife of the Russian president, Svetlana Medvedeva.
The stars of the Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre and St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre, such as prima ballerina, Svetlana Zakharova, Mariinsky prima Viktoria Tereshkina and Mariinsky soloist Semen Chudin, performed fragments of the legendary ballets, including Carmen, Taras Bulba and Don Quixote.
More that 350 cultural events took place within the framework of the Russia-Spain cross-cultural year. The most significant were of course the exhibitions of the Prado Museum to the Hermitage and the exhibition of Hermitage's best masterpieces in Spain.
The concert lasted about one and a half hour and, after its ending the audience didn't want to let the ballet dancers go, calling them to the scene with applauses again and again.
