Yelena Polenova Exhibition in Moscow to Mark the Artists 160th Anniversary

Exhibition of the artist Yelena Polenova will be opened in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow on December, 16th.
The sister of the foremost Russian impressionist Vasily Polenov and the first enthusiast of studying chthonic elements of the Russian folk fairy tale, Yelena Polenova collected and illustrated off-beat fairy tales, among them the strange named ones, such as, for example, War of Mushrooms.
Skilled in various arts and crafts, she conducted applied art workshops in Abramtsevo. Unlike sugary Bilibin, she created more expressionistic and daunting illustrations.
The exposition focuses on her book illustrations and works of arts and crafts created by the artist herself or based on her sketches.
The exhibition runs till 26 February 2012.
