Property scandal burst out in Kashin town between church and the secular power.

The local relic - Sretensky Convent of the 17th century was nearly sold at an auction at 2 million 560 thousand roubles - the amount equal to the cost of a one-room apartment in Tver.

Kashin's administration put it up for an auction as “an uninhabited premise” - this is how the convent building is described in the municipal register.

585.8 square meters of the ancient relic with the convent’s cathedral, which is in a deplorable state, was going to be sold just to get some profit until it is totally collapsed.

The abandoned building of the Sretensky Convent is located in the outskirts of the so-called Workers’ Settlement in Kashin. The 17th century building has kept its former greatness only from the facade, whereas inside it is a total mess. It remains unknown who is going to restore the building.
