MegaFon cuts down prices for roaming

MegaFon, one of the three major mobile operators in Russia, has claimed about the biggest in its history cutting down prices for roaming. The phone calls and sms costs for customers, staying abroad, have fallen nine times.

The company says it has managed to agree about preferential terms at mutual settlement with its European partners in 44 counties.

An incoming call from Russia for a MegaFon customer, staying abroad in roaming, will cost 6 Rubles, an outgoing call will cost 16 Rubles. Up to now the prices have been 56 Rubles for incoming calls and 86 Rubles for outgoing calls (without turning on a special roaming tariff).

Cutting down prices for roaming, MegaFon has scarified its earnings and profitability. Though the mass usage of the service may compensate the loss.

The other two largest mobile operators Vimpelcom (Beeline) and MTS has kept their roaming prices on the same level. MTS charges 79 Rubles for an incoming call, Vimpelcom (Beeline) charges 69 Rubles for the service. At that the two operators offer special tariffs for people going abroad.

There is a possibility that MTS and Vimpelcom will follow MegaFon example and cut their prices for roaming as well.
