Historical building of Lokhovaya’s summer residence has been demolished with a bulldozer in Komarovo Settlement of the Leningrad Region.
In the Soviet period the site of the monument belonged to the Ministry of Defense. In autumn 2009 the plot was purchased by the company Reading for hotel building.
Once there were four buildings there: summer residences of Andreyev, Dukhnovsky, Lokhovaya and Sandin. Those were paragons of countryside architecture of the early 20th century. They were even included in the lists of newly revealed cultural heritage sites.
In 2010 houses of Andreyev and Dukhnovsky were put out of protection and taken down. In December this year Lokhovaya’s house shared the same fate.
“According to my data, it was some dweller who demolished the building. It is a criminal act”, Komarovo’s historian Elena Travina commented on the event. It is evident that the Komarovo Settlement famous as the old place of summer residences of Russian artists and writers is now losing its historical look.
