The famous slogan "the car in front is a Toyota" seems to have acquired a different meaning in Moscow. According to Caesar Satellite, alarm equipment providers, Toyotas are extremely popular among the car thieves. Not only that, the car lifters are craving nearly all Japanese makes. Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Honda, and Nissan top two lists, independently compiled by two different groups of companies.

      This does not mean that you should avoid investing in a business class automobile, if you have to live and work in Moscow. However, you will have to invest in making your car qualify for a special car theft insurance. To qualify, the car needs to have lock brake system and a satellite alarm system with the function of reading labels. Without it, the insurance companies perceive it as an assured loss to offer compensation, should one of these expensive cars be stolen.
