Alcohol-free Red Square on New Year’s Day

Traditionally thousands of people see in the New Year’s Day in the Red Square. This time Moscow authorities have banned taking alcohol to the Red Square and selling it nearby.

      
Selling alcohol, bear and low-alcohol cocktails as well as brining drinks in glass bottles in the center of Moscow, including the Red Square, Revolution, Lubyanskaya, Theatralnaya, and Pushkin Squares, on New Year’s night have been banned by Central Moscow Prefecture. The ban comes in to force at 19:00 on 31 December 2011 and works till 08:00 in 1 January 2012.

      
The measures have been taken to ensure safety and to avoid piling dangerous rubbish.
