A monument to the legendary Russian strongman Ivan Poddubny has appeared in Yeysk (Kransodar Region). The sculpture has been set up not far from his memorial in Podduby Park.
It was in the seaside town of Yeysk, where the famous athlete spent the last years of his life and where he was laid to rest. For almost forty years his memorial museum has been working in the town.
The author of the bronze sculpture is the Moscow sculptor Mikhail Plokhotsky. Ivan Poddubny is depicted standing full-length and wearing all his gongs on the circus arena. The inscription on the memorial plate says: To champion of champions in honour of his 140th anniversary from grateful followers.
It is a reminder that within 40 years of performances on the mat the wrestler did not lose a single tournament, having thus deserved the unofficial title the champion of champions.
