On Monday, Evgeny Plushenko made his first victorious competition since his figure skating silver medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The comeback turned to be a triumph, as the figure skater was able to win a gold medal.
For the reviving of his successful career Evgeny Plushenko chose the Russian national championships in Saransk. He skated complicated programs consisted of many linked elements. There were some small mistakes in a short program, but the general points were enough for his ninth Russian national title.
The winner said it was a hard victory, as he hadn't fully recovered from knee surgery earlier this year. Plushenko still needs a second operation on his knee in the near future, perhaps after the European Figure Skating Championship in Sheffield, England, starting January 23.
Yet the figure skater plans to continue his career and round it off with a gold medal at his home Olympics in Sochi in 2014.
