Dwellers of the town of Krasny (Smolensk Region) have got a present for the anniversary of the Russian-French war of 1812, though just a few years ago restoration of this old monument seemed an impracticable dream.
After the victory over Napoleon it was decided to mark the places of the most heroic fights with monuments developed by the well-known Italian architect Antonio Adamini.
The monuments appeared in Borodino, Smolensk, Maloyaroslavets (Kaluga Region), Krasny (Smolensk Region), Kovno (Lithuania), and Polotsk (Belarus).
Unfortunately, only the Smolensk monument has come down to us in its original condition, whereas all others have been ruined in this or that way.
At first the monument was restored in a slightly changed form in Borodino Field, then in Maloyaroslavets, and last year in Polotsk too. At the end of 2011 the monument in Krasny started to be restored.
