On Monday, two people were killed and about 39 injured as a result of a gas explosion at an Italian restaurant in southwestern Moscow, reportedly the city healthcare department.
One of the victims is 44-year woman who worked in the restaurant as a cook. The other person is still unknown.
The incident took place on Monday, January 9, on the Novocheremushinskaya street. According to the preliminary data, a liquid gas canister exploded in the kitchen of the Il Pittore restaurant, blowing out the windows and setting the building ablaze. The roof caved in. Most of the damage was caused by flying glass shards and burns.
The authorities has already opened a criminal case on charges of negligent homicide and provision of improper and unsafe services. The charges carry a penalty of up to 10 years.
Moscow Government has promised to pay compensation to families of the tragedy's victims and to help with burial.
