The museum of gold and platinum industry, that was closed for renovation, will start to receive tourists in summer of 2012. It is located in Berezovsky town of the Sverdlovsk region.
The renovation took more than 4 years and required large investment. The museum will be opened in July with all-new exhibition and will become the heart of tourist route “Berezovsky – the birthplace of Russian gold”.
First gold deposits were found in the town in 1748. Berezovsky deposit is incredibly rich and rather old: more than a thousand mines were built here for 250 years. Today there are only four operating mines and the rest ones have become a history of the town which is actively used for tourism purposes. Private companies organize special tours dedicated to gold industry and the opening of the new museum will likely increase the number of visitors in 2012.
Berezovsky is located 12 km north-east of Yekaterinburg.
