City Defenders Try to Stop Demolition of Another Historical Building of St. Petersburg

Defenders of Petersburg have made an announcement that pulling down of House 145 in Fontanka Embankment is illegal.

Dismantling of internal wings was started on January, 3rd. Activists immediately interfered with this situation.

Then representatives of the state building inspection, experts and police arrived at the site. The day before all works had been suspended. According to city defenders, though the building is not an architecture monument, it is of great value for Petersburg, in particular its interiors. The house was built in the early 19th century and then reconstructed. Five years ago the building was recognized a wreck.

The activists say that they have supervised the house in Fontanka for ten years already. In November 2011 they petitioned for putting the building under protection, and a month later the investors mentioned they did not want to do anything for preserving the house.
