On Wednesday, Russian Youth Winter Olympic team has left for Innsbruck, Austria, for the first ever Youth Olympic Winter Games, to take part in almost everyl sport discipline.
The team's supporters held a farewell ceremony at Moscow's Domodedovo airport. They wish good luck to 67 young athletes, who are going to represent Russia at the Games, which get underway on Friday.
The biggest hope of the team is women's figure skaters, such as three-time domestic champion Adelina Sotnikova and world junior championships runner-up Elizaveta Tuktamyshova. Fans also lay their big hopes on Russian junior hockey team, which recently took the second place at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Canada. The team will play their first game on Friday against Canada.
Junior Winter Games is the great chance for young athletes to show themselves and try their powers before Sochi Olympic Winter Games 2014.
This year Innsbruck is hosting the maiden Winter Games, while the first ever Summer Youth Olympic Games took place in Singapore in 2010. The Games will last for 9 days, and 65 complete sets of medals in 15 sports will be set for competition.
