Moscow Animal Rights Activists Stand Against Chinese Fur Coats

Russian animals defenders have sent complaints to Moscow police about some sales outlets at the All-Russia Exhibition Center which stocks Chinese fur coats made of domestic cat skins.

An animal protection group sent a formal complaint to police on Friday alleging the outlet had a long record of violations.

The Sales personnel say that the fur coats are made from the skin of a wild Jungle Cat. But the group activists are sure these are skins of domestic cats, as the wool is too soft and short for wild cats, and the price is too low - 10-12,000 rubles ($316-380), while the fur coats made of wild cats should cost about 30,000 rubles ($950).

“So we sent a petition to the police asking that they do a check and demanded that the import of domestic cat fur from China be banned,” one of the activists said.
