Russian ballet legend Nikolay Tsiskaridze will keep his teacher job at the theatre despite his strained relations with the Bolshoi management.
The Bolshoi Theatre has reserved its decision to terminate Tsiskaridze’s teacher contract in mid-January on the dancer’s own request. So Tsiskaridze will stay as a teacher till June 30 - the day of the contract's end.
In December 2011, the Bolshot Theatre's management announced his plans to terminate contracts with Tsiskaridze and his counterpart Yan Godovsky and to replace them with one full-time teacher, Regina Nikiforova. Tsiskaridze was to keep his job as of the Bolshoi's premier dancer.
Nikolay Tsiskaridze supposed that the decision to fire him came after his criticism of the Bolshoi's revamp. He also promised to fight for his rights and to bring an action against the theatre's management.
