The Office of Public Prosecutor of Petersburg undertakes to rescue all historical buildings located in the city.
Representatives of the supervising department have found two loopholes, which allow taking down houses of historical value. With the help of the first loophole many buildings were demolished, if they were under the threat of collapse and so were dangerous to people. Often buildings would be purposefully driven to emergency condition.
The second loophole was the point of “local changes” carried out in historical buildings. It is forbidden to change facades of historical buildings, but it was allowed, for example, to put a window instead of a door and vice-versa (this is what was called “local changes”). Now the Office of Public Prosecutor requests the Legislative Assembly to correct the law on protected zones.
