In the course of excavations in Tver archeologists have found small sculptures of the 14th -15th centuries with strongly pronounced erotic implications.
The figurines were unearthed on the site of a medieval house in the former Zagorsky trading quarters, located about 200 meters away from the Tver Kremlin. The first sculpture depicts a nude man wearing a cap only.
The second figurine depicts some animal on four paws. “Just like in case with the man’s figurine, the animal’s genitals are grotesquely exaggerated” — the archeologists point out. Probably, the composition of two pair figurines was used as illustrations to some obscene stories, in performances or even certain magic rituals.
Interestingly, in the same place another find was dug out – a 16th century lead seal of Tver bishop Varsonofy.
