Wildlife sanctuary “Leopard” and reserve “Cedar Honeydew” in Primorsky Territory on the basis of which the prime minister Vladimir Putin ordered to create national park Land of Leopard is being cut down.
“As soon as the ecological and economic justification of the project on creation of the national park Land of Leopard was sent to Moscow, “predators” have at once rushed to this land. Their logic is clear — while the forest here still belongs to the Forest Management, it needs to be cut down. Once the forest fund goes to the national park, nobody will be able to allocate it for logging area”, zoologist Michael Krechmar writes.
He points out that he has already witnessed such "approach" in the course of foundation of the national park Call of Tiger. As he reports, besides logging, hunting, though officially forbidden, is carried out in the future national park area.
