Administration of Kyshtym Town of the Chelyabinsk Region has decided to board up the windows and doors of the Demidovs’ Mansion “The White House”, which is an architectural monument of federal importance.
The town authorities are going to undertake such measures in order to protect the culture monument from vandals.
The Demidovs’ Mansion built in 1757 is neglected now and is turning into a public toilet. Presently anybody can enter the building, which needs urgent reconstruction that has been repeatedly postponed due to shortage of budget.
At the end of January, 2012 reporters informed that an initiative group of Kyshtym dwellers was ready to start restoration of the architecture monument without waiting for help from authorities. Dwellers and officials of the town have developed a stage-by-stage plan of restoration and settling of the building, which could house the town’s museum, a historical restaurant, a hotel or, for example, an industrial reserve.
