Monument to Classic of Russian Avant-garde to Appear in Novosibirsk
El Lissitzky

A monument to the classic of Russian avant-garde art El Lissitzky is planned to be set up in Novosibirsk.

El Lissitzky (1890-1941) was an outstanding figure of Russian avant-garde art, an architect, artist, designer, theorist of art and a colleague of Malevich in suprematism. El Lissitzky is one of the most widely known Russian artists in the West, where in general Russian avant-garde is known better than any other trends of Russian art.

Novosibirsk and El Lissitzky are practically coevals and almost “twin-brothers”, because the city was devised as an absolutely avant-garde project. Till now the avant-garde concept of “the victory over future” as the ideology of development suits Novosibirsk very much.
