Two tractor drivers were disciplined and their chief was fired after video popped up on YouTube, which showed an extreme tractor drift on an icy road.
The incident took place in the the city of Irkutsk in western Siberia. Two tractors showed drift racing – a technique of sideways steering popular with street racers – at night near the city’s main sports venue, Trud. The performance took place in front of amazed public and also was filmed with a cell phone.
The vehicles, fitted for snow plowing, are encircled by cars with lights on and cruise around to cheers from the crowd. An invisible spectator breathes out: “Damn, now that’s something” at one point. Later the video appeared on Youtube, but did not make ripples in the media until this week.
The drivers were disciplined and stripped of bonuses, because of the misuse of the special equipment. The chief of the team, who had allowed these games with tractors, was fired.
