The Kremlin has created its own brand of premium vodka, "Kremlin Award" for serving it at special Kremlin events of presidential administration.
The new brand was officially presented at the ProdExpo 2012 exhibition in Moscow on Tuesday. It was made by the Moscow-based Cristall distillery and Armenian concern Multi Group. The alcoholic beverage is bottled in the Cristall special department.
The presidential administration's spokesman says the vodka was made of only of the best grains and ethanol brands. He adds the vodka is already being served at Kremlin events. It is unknown if the new brand will appear outside the presidential administration, but at least one Russian online store on Tuesday offered it for purchase at the price of 792 rubles ($26.4) for a half-liter bottle.
In December 2011, there were 6 registered brands under the title "Kremlin". Among them are "Kremlin Vodka", "Kremlin Beer" brandy "Kremlin" and sweets "Kremlin Bear".
Another scandal about registered brand name was solved on Tuesday, when Russian Agency for Patents and Trademarks has registered the trademark "Volodya I medvedi" (Volodya and the bears). Earlier the agency denied to register it, saying that "registering such trademark will harm the image and interests of the country and will contradict the public opinion".
Volodya is a short name for Vladimir, and many people link it with Russian Premier Minister Vladimir Putin. "Medvedi" means 'bears', and a bear is a ruling United Russia party mascot. Also, the current Russian president's surname is Medvedev.
Nevertheless, the Moscow Arbitrary court found such decision unlawful.
