Moscow Election Committee has decided to hold a dry run prior to the upcoming polls. The list of candidates can surprise potential voters.
In an attempt to ensure the elections go as planned, the Moscow Election Committee will hold an "open day" at 12 polling stations on Saturday February 25. The public will be able able to control the preparation for presidential elections on March, 4, and to make their choices in the "repetition" voting.
Yet instead of five real candidates for the presidential post the list will give people the opportunity to vote either for Alexander Nevsky, Napoleon Bonaparte, Peter the Great, Winston Churchill or Genghis Khan.
According to Valentin Gorbunov, the head of Moscow Election Committee, such test polls are intended to demonstrate how the real elections would go. The list of additional candidates was made to distance "the repetition" from the big pre-election campaign, which is taking place these days. However, all historical candidates will be supplied with their own electoral programmes, as well as election pledges.
During the test run the committee will monitor the organization of voting, the work of supervisors, and test security cameras.
