On February 29, Russian national football team has defeated Denmark 2-0 in a friendly match within Euro 2012. It was the first team's game in the season under the guidance of Dick Advocaat.
Both goals were scored in the first half. The fast goal was in the fourth minute, when Aleksandr Kerzhakov freed the space for Roman Shirokov, who collected Andrey Arshavin’s assist and slotted it home from the edge of the box, 1-0.
The Danes had several attempts to equalize scores, but their kicks weren't accurate.
Right before the break Andrei Arshavin scored the second goal for his country after over two years of silence. Home keeper Thomas Sørensen made his 100th game for Denmark a night to forget, failing to cope with a shot from the Russian captain, which landed in the middle of the goal, 2-0.
The second half of the match wasn't so notable. Spartak Moscow midfielder Dmitry Kombarov made his debut for the national team.
Team Russia are now unbeaten in eleven games in a row, while a five-match winning streak is over for the Danes.
The next warm-up of the Russian team will be held on May 25, when Moscow will host Uruguay. Then the Russians will travel to Switzerland to play Liechtenstein four days later and Italy on June 1.
On February 29, there was also a friendly match of Russian youth football team against their peers from Sweden. Russian youth football players defeated their opponents 4-1.
