British rock-musician Peter Gabriel has come out in support of Russian protest movement. He has spoken about his solidarity with protesters in his video statement on Youtube.
In his speech Peter Gabriel expressed his admiration for Russian human rights activists, referring to Anna Politkovskaya, Stanislav Markelov, Natalya Estemirova and Sergei Magnitskiy - the people who had become victims of lawlessness.
Peter also said he wanted to add his name to the long list of names of Russian protests' supporters. He expressed his belief that Russia started a new stage in its political development and wished luck in this way.
Peter Gabriel is probably the first world-famous musician, who publicly supports Russian protest movement and doesn't refuse to perform on tours in Russia because of political reasons. Maybe his initiative will give rise to support actions of other famous persons.
Names of Russian human rights activists are heard in Gabriel's last album «Scratch My Back» (2010), in his remake of Regina Spektor's song «Après Moi».
