On the night of March 15, Real Madrid defeated CSKA Moscow football club 4:1, so Russia has lost its representative in the Champions League.
The previous match between two clubs ended 1:1. So, summing the both matches, Real makes 5:2 aggregate victory and goes to the Champions League quarterfinals.
A game-opener was scored by Gonzalo Higuain in a 26th minute of the match. In the second half Cristiano Ronaldo struck Russians twice. And the forth goal was made by Karim Benzema. The only Russian goal was made by Zoran Tosic in a 80th minute, but that couldn't change anything.
"We had our moments, we had our chances with Seydou Doumbia, but to play against such a team and put together a string of chances, every player needed to be on top form," CSKA coach Leonid Slutsky commented upon the match.
Thereby, there are no Russian football clubs left at the Champions League. Earlier in 2012, St. Petersburg "Zenit" was beaten by Portuguese "Benfica" in 1/8, Moscow "Lokomotiv" made way for Spanish "Atletica" and Kazan "Rubin" was worse than Greek "Olympiacos" in 1/16.
