The Astrakhan region has started to promote its new tourism sector. In addition to traditional fishing and hunting, the region will present a new offer – educational tourism connected with historical, archaeological and architectural landmarks.

      For example, the cultural and entertainment centre “Sarai-Batu – the capital of the Golden Horde” was opened here last year. It was created on the place of filming the movie "The Horde". Visitors can see the real historic objects and scenery from the movie.

      Another large-scale Astrakhan project "Ostrov Gorodskoy" is preparing to be implemented. That means that an ecological park with clean sandy beaches, aqua park, arboretum, restaurants and recreation areas will be opened on the big island, located on the Volga.

      However, fishing tourism still remains the main kind of recreation of the Astrakhan region.
