Investigators have not found basis to charge Gegam Sarkissyan, a Russian businessman, who killed three robbers who invaded his home and attacked his family, the Investigative Committee reported Wednesday.
Late Friday, April 7, four attackers, armed with a baseball bat and a gun, broke into the home of Sarkisyan's family, which included his wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, and three grandsons aged 6, 3 and 7 months. The robbers demanded money and abused the man’s family members.
"They beat the children, my wife, my daughter, then started to beat me, and put a gun into my mouth," the head of the family told journalists.
When they put a gun to the baby's head, the businessman took a kitchen knife attacked the thieves. Three robbers died on the spot, the fourth fled the scene.
At first it was said Gegam Sarkisyan could be brought a charge for acting beyond self defense and even face life imprisonment. But later investigators said the businessman acted within his rights to self defense and so his conduct was justified.
Police are currently searching for the fourth attacker. Sarkisyan's family have been put under police protection. The businessman himself is in hospital, as he had some injuries during the fight.
