An especially protected nature territory - the Karakansky wildlife preserve - will be established in the Belovsky District of the Kemerovo Region.
Its area will make around 1.2 thousand hectare.
As the deputy governor on natural resources and ecology Nina Vashlayeva points out, it is the first case in Kuzbass, when a specially protected nature area is created in an industrial zone. Earlier the land was bought by a Kuzbass fuel company, however having revised particular project documents on coal mining, the company ascribed the land for a wildlife preserve.
In the area of Karakansky Ridge there are 531 species of floral plants, with more than ten of them included into the Red Book of the Kemerovo Region and in need of protection. Recently Kemerovo scientists have found here groundhogs, which are rare animals for this region, as well as a new species of the bee unknown to science so far.
