The State Russian Museum is holding an exhibition of the well-known artist Alexander Labas, a vivid and original phenomenon of the Soviet fine arts.
The exposition includes more than 100 painting and graphic art works from various galleries and private collections.
Alexander Labas (1900-1983) is known as an experimenter an innovator in painting, one of the founders of Association of Easel Artists. The main section of the forthcoming exhibition will be made of Labas' works of the 1920s-1930s. It is the period of avant-garde experiments, when the artist created his most expressive and remarkable works. In the exhibited works, with the focus on technical equipment and transport, the author embodied in artistic form the impetuous tempo of the modern world. As for his portraits, landscapes and still life paintings, they clearly reveal the artist's lyrical perception of the world.
The exhibition runs till June 15, 2012.
