Activists Plan to Hold Gay Pride Parade in May

Activists plan to hold a gay pride parade in Moscow on May 27, to express protest against the law banning "gay propaganda" in Russia.

Moscow LGBT movement has also filed to the Moscow City Hall for permission to hold a gay pride march and demonstration in Moscow. The organizers don't insist on some specific place and time and are ready for discussions over the action.

Nikolai Alekseyev, leader of the Russian LGBT community, promised to hold the parade even without an agreement from authorities, and also to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights.

Previously, the organizers have filed for permission to hold a gay pride march for seven times and their applications have always been rejected.

Gay community in St. Petersburg has announced plans to hold a gay pride parade on July 7. American pop-star Madonna said she would lend support to Russian LGBT movement during her concert in St. Petersburg on August 9.

Russian recently vetoed a statement of the G8 foreign ministers at the summit in Chicago concerning protections for sexual minorities.
