Best Russian athletes in different types of martial arts have been honored at the Golden Belt awards ceremony in Moscow.
The highest title, the Men's Best Athlete of the Year award, was given to 20-year-old world super-bantam-weight and featherweight kickboxing sensation, Yury Trogiyanov.
The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, in the State Kremlin Palace, in presence of 5,000 guests. The awards were given in such nominations as "Men's Best Athlete of the Year", "Women's Best Athlete of the Year", "Best Coach of the Year", "The Most Impressive Win", "Allegiance to Traditions" and others.
The Women's Best Athlete of the Year was awarded to Svetlana Galyant, an eight-time Sambo world champion.
The prize for the most impressive win of the year went to kickboxing super-champ, Batu Khasikov, for breaking the jaw of “Iron” Mike Zambidis back in November 2011.
The best karate coach was named Dmitry Kotvitsky and the best coach of the year - Igor Kreimer, the coach of five European Championship gold-winners.
The Golden Belt award was founded in 2005 by the Russian Martial Arts Union and now are handed out annually. Every year it traditionally gathers the best sportsmen, masters and coaches in Russian martial arts.
