The unapproachable ferro-concrete fortress constructed back in 1938 in Beloostrov (St. Petersburg) is under the threat of destruction.
A particle of Russia’s military history, which played its part in Soviet-Finnish war as well as World War Two, may now vanish from the face of the earth. Once the Soviet government spent an unprecedented amount (nearly one million rubles) for creation of this long-term defensive point, and this is why the pillbox got its nickname “Millionaire”.
Presently the well-known pillbox located in Beloostrov is surrounded with holiday villages from all sides. Municipal authorities together with locals, undertake attempts to preserve this historical and military rarity.
However, the memorial is not included officially into the range of memorial monuments, and its land is registered among the plots intended for building-up.
