In the aftermath of the President's inauguration, and the arrests of the opposition leaders during the holiday weekend in Moscow, the famous writer Boris Akunin plans a "control walkabout" around the Boulevard Ring - to see, if or not Muscovites can promenade freely in the town centre.
The walk is planned for May 13, 2012; the creator of Erast Fandorin, the character of extremely popular detective stories, will promenade in the company of Dmitry Bykov, a journalist, Alexei Kortnev and Andrei Makarevich, both musicians, and other public figures.
"We want to establish, if Muscovites can wander freely around their town centre, or if they need a special permission to do so... Pretending to be immersed in a talk about literature, but in fact trembling with fear, we shall walk from the monument to Alexander Pushkin in Pushkinskaya Sq. to the monument to Alexander Griboyedov in Chistye Prudy", the writer explains in his blog. Akunin goes under his real name of Grigory Tchkhartishvili.
The action takes place in the aftermath of several opposition figures being arrested this weekend for uttering political slogans, while walking in the city centre. Arguably, this was classed as a small-scale political rally, which, however, was not permitted by the city authorities.
