Since 1918 year up to the end of 2011 Russian auto industry has produced 82 million cars, according to an analytical agency Avtostat. In the recent years about 1.5 -2 million cars are produced annually in Russia.
The statistic agency has counted that for 93 years (the period from 1918 up to the end of 2011) 81 850 470 000 cars have been produced in Russia; among them 49.1 million autos, about 29.52 million lorries and 3.3 million buses.
The great input into development of the Russian auto industry was made by the establishing of the car-producing plant ''AVTOVAZ'' (now JSC ''AVTOVAZ'') in 1976. It is the largest plant in its industry in Russia. It produces about 550-600 thousand cars annually in the recent years.
